Value of Compliment

THE COMPLIMENT MEANT TO BE!!
Pleasant words are like honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones (Bible). People always appreciate genuine words than gifts. Gifts have a life, but words remain with you forever. It’s great to receive a compliment. I am referring to true and genuine compliments that come from the heart and are meant for the good, rather than random “compliments” that address objects that are materialistic in nature. A great compliment is about acknowledging the positives about another person.

Sometimes, giving a compliment becomes a challenge. There can be many reasons. Some people are just not cut out for it…some love themselves too much to see good in others, some may have low self esteem….and some may not be able to compliment beyond external materialistic things as they are unable to reach deep down to the core of the other person.

Did you know that the health and happiness benefits to the compliment giver are also well-documented? Compliments really are one of the easiest two-way streets available for spreading happiness around you and increasing your own. The more you compliment, the better you feel.

A few weeks ago, I was spending some time with a good friend—someone I look up to in many ways. During a break in the conversation, I mentioned some things I admire about her. I didn’t think much of it. In fact, her response surprised me. She lifted her head, looked me in the eye, and replied, “Thank you Rita. I really needed to hear that today.”

Many people are fighting difficult battles. They put on smiling faces, but deep down, they hurt. Sometimes, a kind word is the only source of hope they find in their day.

Everyone craves praise, but to accept a compliment with grace is also a challenge. How many of us truly know how to receive a compliment? For whatever the reason, it's been my experience that instead of just simply saying "thank you", most of us do everything possible to deny or deflect the kind words.
Allowing ourselves to simply say thank you is a bigger deal than we may realize. First, we are allowing the other person to have their own opinion. Second, we are allowing ourselves to just receive (which is a lot harder for some than you may realize). Allowing yourself to receive these kind words with gratitude may very well open up the flow to many more beautiful things in your life.

I truly believe in what—William Arthur Ward says, “Blessed is he who has learned to admire but not envy, to follow but not imitate, to praise but not flatter, and to lead but not manipulate.” Think of someone in your life whom you have not complimented in a while…..Go ahead….send out that long awaited wonderful compliment today.

Love Yourself!

Many people, in seeking out love, tend to look outward rather than inward. Yet falling in love with yourself can be just as wonderful an experience as falling in love with someone else. While the idea of falling in love with ourselves may be perceived as conceited or selfish, choosing to fall in love with who you are is a powerful act of self-love.

When you fall in love with yourself, you can’t help but experience a wonderful sense of discovery. You begin to look at yourself again through fresh eyes, becoming more attentive to the little details that make you so unique. Once you discover how much there is about you to fall in love with, you can’t help but want to treat yourself as lovingly and respectfully as you would treat anyone who is special to you. You start to give to yourself more because you become more attentive to your own needs and desires.

Choosing to fall in love with yourself is a very personal process that takes time. There is no magic wand you can wave to make this just happen. But there is the magic of your intention and the power of your actions, whether you are taking the time to do the activities you like, speaking to and treating yourself with respect, taking inventory of all your wonderful qualities and accomplishments, or nurturing yourself with plenty of rest and self-care. When you fall in love with yourself, you begin to see yourself more positively, appreciate your unique outlook on life, and treat yourself in a more nurturing way. In loving yourself, you are acknowledging that you are special and deserving of love. Best of all, you are giving yourself one of the greatest gifts you have to give another. You are giving yourself the gift of your love.
